I would like to thank Ms. Taylor for sharing her love of this classic film and enlightening us with her reflections on the character and impressions of a first love. She has a way with words which clearly indicate a talent for writing as she places the events of this film under her microscope. It is interesting to see how a woman looks at young love from the perspective of mature years. Perhaps some of the brilliance that was once there has dimmed, but the flashes of understanding which arrive in later years could prove to be the underpining that sustains the habit of loving after surviving some of life's inevitable disappointments as Wordsworth's poem intimates. The bloom does come off the rose but nature's cycles assure us that there will come another season when the opportunity to love again will present itself. However, our next love will never have the same inspiring and shattering effect as the first one does. As Ms. Taylor observes, love is not just a pursuit of carnal satisfaction - as titillating as physical attraction can be - but it is a quest to unite the dream and the desire and this combination takes us to places where the river runs deep. That first love inevitably yet indelibly takes its place as the first tentative steps on this quest for love which invigorates and sustains throughout the journey. This experience becomes not a consolation, but an orchestration of the complexity and richness of life fully realized.
My thanks to Ms. Taylor for sharing her reflections.

This is a great piece and gives you a glimpse of the inner world of film-making. As great as this story is, the writer is equally impressive. I have read many of her articles and I'm genuinely impressed by this writer and I WILL NOT be surprised when she makes it big.

I agree with your notion of the cut & paste commentary of JLG. But I translate the words differently and believe it fits more closely with the infuriating Godard. Des Choses is some things; some gold, some bastards, etc. I'm reading this as a little of this (some of this) and a little of that (some of that) makes the mash-up.

Merci pour votre critique.
