Friday, August 31, 7:30PM
@ Topanga Library.
After packing up and leaving Topanga in 2010, having always dreamed of both making a film and hitting the highway for a year, the young family finally killed two birds with one road trip. The four traveled the country in an RV, home schooling the kids, while shooting an original full-length film along the way. Now the favorite Topanga Family returns home richer, with an award-winning to boot.
On Friday May 25th, come see an outstanding movie in an intimate setting with question and answer opportunities following the film. Thank all of you for an amazing Kick-Off to the Final Fridays series we had in April. We had a great turnout and we anticipate future events to sell out. RSVP your spot (to ensure a seat) to wpb@topangafilmfestival.com
A suggested Donation of $10 will get you a reserved seat.
TFI Presents
PASSION
Friday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m.
@ Topanga Library.
A Feature Documentary Film Directed by Byamba Sakhya
presented by James Chressanthis, A.S.C.
Winner of the Grand Prize for the Asia Vision Award at the 7th Taiwan International Documentary Festival and the Mongolian national award Goo Maral for the best film of 2010.
Followed by Q&A with Topanga resident and filmmaker James Chressanthis, A.S.C.
PASSION follows a passionate, idealistic and completely broke Mongolian filmmaker around showing perplexed nomads his melodramatic films all the while philosophizing with his great old friend about socialism, broken dreams and the cost of petrol.
Distinguished Mongolian film director Jigjid Dejid was renowned for his outstanding films made during the communist regime. Passion contrasts Jigjid’s journey with the present day reality facing his filmmaker son Binder Jigjid in Mongolia’s transitional society. Binder’s story echoes the experience of many Mongolian artists as they struggle to meet the multiple challenges of surviving artistically and financially in the market economy. Binder is so fiercely passionate about cinema that he makes films with zero budget and then he roams all over his land to show his melodramas to isolated nomads in the steppes.
Passion is, in essence, an unpredictable and grand road trip over the steppes undertaken by Binder and his admiring and provocative friend Byamba (the director). The two find themselves in absurd and hilarious situations that Binder somehow always manages to turn into a platform for some elevated discussion about the supremacy of socialism, an exotic nature of nomads or the nobility of his unpaid bills…
