Max H Penner

Max H. Penner’s career in the film industry has spanned over 30 years where he has worked as a DOP, Camera Systems Engineer and one of Hollywood’s small handful of A-list Stereographers. Max began his film career working in the optical department for Cinema Products. There he assembled and calibrated the 28 to 480mm lens used for the zooms in Stanley Kubrick’s A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and would later assemble and calibrate the lens used for the candle light scenes in BARRY LYNDON . Max’s 3D experience began on 65mm Special Venue projects. He was the 1st Assistant Camera Technician on such staples as “Muppet Vision”, “Terminator 2: 3D”, “Honey I Shrunk the Audience”, “It’s Tough To Be a Bug” and “Pirates”. In 1991, Mr. Penner co-founded Paradise FX Corp. with Tim Thomas where he continues to serve as the company’s CTO and Chief Stereographer. Max has since remained one of the leading pioneers of 3D technology. Combining his knowledge of optics and camera systems, Max has remained at the helm of 3D rig design, as well as camera operations that have set the standards for live action 3D capture. Max’s most recent work on STREETDANCE 3D, the first 3D digital live action feature film shot in Europe, recently premiered #1 in the UK box office. Max’s credits also include THE HOLE (earning the Person Award for best 3D at the 2009 Venice Film Festival), DARK COUNTRY (Sony Stage 6), MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D (Lionsgate) and STREETDANCE 3D (Vertigo). Max has provided principal stereography on Paramount’s JACKASS 3D and has recently completed DRIVE ANGRY (Millennium) starring Nicholas Cage.
